About SEIU UHW
United Healthcare Workers - West
The SEIU United Healthcare Workers-West (SEIU UHW) is the largest and most powerful healthcare union in the western United States.
SEIU UHW was formed on January 1, 2005 after the members of Local 250 in Northern California and Local 399 in Southern California overwhelmingly voted to unify. Our 150,000+ members work in every facet of the healthcare industry, including hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and homecare.
We are affiliated with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), with more than 2 million workers nationwide.
Victories for Workers and Patients
At the bargaining table, and in workplaces across the state, SEIU UHW is a union that delivers real victories for it's members. For workers across California - for workers at Alameda Hospital and SunBridge facilities, to name just two of many - we have won big increases in pay, benefits and respect on the job.
Both on our own and as a part of SEIU International, SEIU UHW makes sure that our members' voices are heard beyond just the workplace. With 150,000 members across the state, we are a strong advocate for healthcare reform and for public policy that improves the lives of those on the front lines of the healthcare system.
Leading the fight to Protect Home Care
SEIU UHW represents hard-working Home Care and IHSS workers throughout California. We understand how important Home Care funding can be to protecting patients and families.
That's why we're leading the fight to protect Home Care. Right now, Fresno County plans to make big funding cuts on July 1st that will devastate Home Care in California.
These cuts came before the federal stimulus plan gave the state additional funding to help make sure the state doesn't slash wages for caregivers, and now the Obama administration has come out against the cuts.
Now our members' voices are being heard, but we need you to join us.
Please Click Here to Take Action, and help Protect Fresno Home Care. We need to stand together to make sure the County Supervisors know how many families depend on it.
